When Jean Gilfillan, born 1794, Glasgow, dies, 75, on 15/5/1864, widow of Allan Gilfillan, handloom weaver, of Dropsy - 13 weeks, at 3 Hunter Street, Glasgow, her parents were given as John McArthur, handloom weaver, deceased & Elizabeth Clark deceased
And Jean Mcarthur was baptised to John McArthur & Elizabeth Clerk on 6/6/1794 in Glasgow - FS . Seemingly their only child. But the only John Mcarthur marriage vaguely possible is that to an Elisabeth Sym 15/7/1793 in Glasgow
So John McArthur would have been born ~1770 . I cannot find his marriage to Elizabeth Clerk 1774-1794 on FS nor on SP
And there are 7 births in Glasgow alone for a John McArthur 1760-1772 - so we will not get any further back here!
1841C. 2 entries in Lanarkshire for John McArthur, one 70, the other 65, but neither with an Elizabeth. Both in Lanark, Glasgow, one a weaver, likely he, the other 'mer s', whatever that means!
He might well have died by 1841. Some entries in 1851C, but none likely him. End of the line here!
